A family of silver falcons and the strongest from the world they hail, the Windwhistlers currently consist of three brothers and their mates. The first expeditionary team consists of the three brothers. The team's roster, however, will change over time.
Name: Scott, Oliver, & Arrow Windwhistler
Gender: Male
Race: Silver Peregrine Falcons
Breed: Anatum peregrines
Pack/Group/Gang: SFAF Expeditionary Force
Rank: Skymaster (Scott), Wingmaster (Oliver & Arrow)
Appearance: Peregrine falcons; completely ordinary in every way except the silver feathers under their wings.
Height: 33, 35, and 40 cm long (Arrow, Oliver, and Scott in that order)
weight: 550, 600, 700 grams (Arrow, Oliver, and Scott in that order)
Personality: Scott is warm and inviting, but is naturally leery around humans for all the suffering they have caused him and his race as a whole. He puts considerable faith in his brothers and the silver falcons as a whole to find a home for themselves and to protect themselves against attacks. This caring, however, often conflicts with the demands of his position, and often is unable to be decisive when sacrifices must be made. His determination to find another solution, however, often leads him to a more complicated solution that benefits all parties. He himself believes he is lucky that he has yet to encounter a tactical problem in which he must order another to his or her death. Both he and his brothers believe that if forced to that extreme, he would likely be unable to deal with the guilt that followed.
Since most of the attention was on the younger Arrow, Oliver often felt low on his parent's priority list and don't hold them in the same regard as Arrow and Scott do. To get attention when he needed it, Oliver designed traps. He designed all kinds of traps, mostly harmless ones involving copious amounts of dye and paint. Oliver took an enjoyment to traps, and although Arrow matured, Oliver didn't seem to for the longest time. As such he can often come off as immature or insensitive to others feelings. It takes a lot of pressure for him to break his otherwise neverending positive composure, but if he ever were to get to that point, it's likely he would break down as anyone else.
Arrow is often cold and professional to those who don't know him. He is often quick to anger and lacks patience with nearly everyone, but is steadfastly loyal to those who he trusts. He gets frustrated very easily, particularly when he is unable to spot errors that, in his eyes, should be corrected. His mate, Skyler, has tried to get him to open up some more, but ever since her death he has been reclusive as ever. His wounds from her loss are slowly healing, but they run deep, and it will take a miracle for them to grow back fully.
When angered, Arrow has a tendency to destroy quite a few items he deems "in the way"; as a result Scott and Oliver are often forced to confine him to quarters when he gets frustrated. Once angered, he is also quite difficult to manage, but one can often calm him down by giving him the solution to whatever his problem is.
On the other hand, however, Arrow is uncommonly generous and often gives sound advice to whoever needs it. Although outright rejecting his assistance can anger or annoy him, he does take criticism well and uses it to improve his own tactics.
Magic: All three brothers are lightning-element silver falcons. This means that they can generate and manipulate both electricity and magnetism. Of the three, Scott is the strongest. He cannot, however, fight at his best without his mate, Ariel. She and Scott have a link that enables them to feed off of each others' powers, and in turn multiply their strength considerably. Scott and Oliver both have the ability to control wind, something Arrow cannot perform yet.
Spells: Spells are often improvised on the fly. The birds' fighting style precludes the use of more complicated magic than "shoot lightning bolts until it's dead".
Skills: Aside from their elements and their ability to communicate, the silver falcons have all the skills and specialties that an ordinary bird would have. This includes unerring vision (peregrines are known to spot a 5mm long insect at 18 metres), ridiculous reflexes (peregrines process images three times faster than a human can; as a result the world appears to move a lot slower to them), the ability to see ultraviolet, and the ability to withstand G-forces beyond humans.
All three birds are trained fluently in aerial combat. The three are also team players, and will support each other if attacked.
Weaknesses: The largest weaknesses the birds have physically are their small size and their total lack of hands. They are not at all intimidating to anyone who hasn't fought them before. They are not physically strong for their size and are extremely weak if you disable their ability to fly. The birds sacrifice raw power for speed, accuracy, and tactics.
History: See the species listing.
